Parent Governor FAQ

Thinking of becoming a parent governor ? Here are some of the frequently asked questions.

How do I become a parent governor ?

Each parent governor’s term is for 4 years at which point an election is held. This is voted for by other parents.

Why would I want to be a parent governor ?

To help shape the future of the school, to be represented, to gain insight into how your children are being educated

But I’m not suitably qualified, I wouldn’t be able to help

As a parent you are more than qualified to give your contribution to the governing body, if you have other skills you can bring then that’s great but you will be provided with free training to get you up to speed

How much time would it require ?

A timetable for all the meetings of both the full Governing Body and sub-committees is set at the first meeting of the academic year to enable members to plan accordingly. This makes up the bulk of your commitment however as a voluntary body the more you can put in the more you will get out of being a Governor
