Reception/ Dosbarth Derbyn

The Scarecrow's Wedding!

Over the past few weeks the children have been listening to the story of 'The Scarecrow's Wedding' by Julia Donaldson (she's one of our favourite authors here in Reception!). You can listen to the story here:

On Thursday 1st October 2020 we will be holding our very own scarecrow's wedding! The children are very excited and have been busy planning the wedding very carefully! We can't wait to share the day with you via twitter. The children have decided that they would like to dress up for the wedding so it'll be a non uniform day. The children can wear party clothes or casual clothes to celebrate the day. Here's to the best wedding yet, the wedding no one will ever forget!

                         Croeso i Dosbarth Derbyn 2020/21!

                                                        (Welcome to Reception 2020/21!)

This year we are lucky enough to have 3 Reception classes! These are:

- Dosbarth Mrs Hammond (Miss Fielding and Mrs Applegate-Lewis)

- Dosbarth Mrs Chin-Adams (Mrs Lollipop and Mrs Moradi)

- Dosbarth Mr Purnell (Miss McGrath and Miss Hackett)

We have had a great start in Reception and we have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the children! We are super proud of how well they are all settling in and we hope they aren't coming home too tired! We've had a busy few days and there's lots more exciting things planned over the forthcoming weeks.

Normally, around this time of the year, we would have held a 'Meet the Teachers' evening where we would invite all the grown ups in to meet the Reception team and tell you a bit about what we do, how the children learn and general information about Reception. Unfortunately, it's not possible this year due to the current situation so we created a virtual 'Meet the Teachers' for you. Please take some time to read it and if you have any questions  or concerns please send us an email on Class Dojo and we will post a FAQ link  by the end of the following week (18th September 2020).

When your child starts Reception it can be an anxious time for you as a parent. We want to assure you that your child will always be looked after and it is our aim to give them the best start to their school life through lots of adventures and fun! We love the outdoors and we believe in giving children real life experiences which will provide them with the skills and knowledge to become independent, enthusiastic and ambitious learners. As always, if you have any concerns about your child, please speak to your child's class teacher. We are always here to help.

Thank you once again for all your support

Here's to lots of happy faces and memories!

                                                                 Our Furry Friend

This is Biscuit! He is our much loved resident guinea pig. The children love looking after him and in return he gives the best cuddles.

                                                                                         PE

Every Friday we will be doing PE lessons. Until further notice, the children can come to school every Friday wearing their PE kits! Kits should include; black shorts/joggers/leggings, a white t-shirt and trainers. With the weather becoming colder, please make sure your child is wearing a jumper as well.

Snack and Lunchtime

At the moment we are currently unable to provide snack for the children. Please send a healthy snack (please limit this to one item) in to school every day in your child's lunch bag in a clearly labelled separate container. Here are some examples of a healthy snack which are popular with the children:

- Apple                                           - Banana                                            - Pear

- Orange                                        - Grapes (cut lengthways)                 - Strawberries

- Peach/Nectarines                       -  Raspberries                                    - Melon

- Carrot                                          - Cucumber                                        - Tomato

- Sugarsnap peas                          - Raisins                                             - Peppers

If your child has school dinners they will still need to bring a snack. If your child is swapping from a packed lunch to school dinners (or vice versa) please let a member of staff know in the morning so we can make sure a dinner is ordered (or not ordered!).

Thank you for all the healthy lunchboxes we are seeing, please continue to send your child to school with a healthy lunchbox (please limit chocolate and refrain from packing sweets).
