If you would like your child to be part of the photograph please send your child to school on Monday wearing Welsh clothes. These can be traditional Welsh girl/boy outfits or the national Welsh rugby/football tops/kits.

Safety Announcement

Please ensure that all children are handed over to a member of staff on the gate each morning. Please refrain from dropping your child off at the main side gate. This is a safety risk and you may also miss important information from the teachers and notices on the notice board.

Please ensure you have downloaded ‘Schoop’ on your device so you don’t miss out on any important news! (our school code is 5427). If your child has previously attended Coed Glas Nursery, please make sure you change the year group notifications to ‘Reception’.

Here are a few reminders about the routines and structure of Reception:

  • Snack is £1 a week (or £7 for this half term) and needs to be paid on a Monday. Please ensure any money you send in with your child is in a clearly marked envelope.
  • Pleasure ensure clothes, shoes, coats and bags (including lunchboxes) are all labelled with your child’s name.
  • Book bags and reading books need to be brought to school every day as the children read to an adult on different days each week. Please remember to send in your child's library book every day as well in order for them to exchange it with a new book.
  • At the end of the day the children are dismissed through the red gates in the infant playground. Children are taught to stand/sit until their name is called and a member of staff hands them to their grown up. Please avoid calling your child’s name as this confuses them.
  • PE is taught every Friday. After February half term children will need to bring their PE kits to school. PE kits are kept in school and sent home at the end of each half term. PE kits consist of a white t-shirt and black shorts/skorts (trainers are not needed until the summer term).
  • If your child has any allergies, food intolerances or dietary requirements please let a member of staff know ( if you haven’t already done so).

Lastly, we like to use twitter to show you about the children’s learning and experiences during their time in Reception - please follow us @coedglas2025

Dosbarth Derbyn

Our topic this Spring term is 'The Battle of the Dinosaurs!'

Important dates for your diary:

  • Wednesday 23rd January 2019: School trip to the Natural History Museum
  • Friday 8th February 2019: Dinosaur Workshop (in school)
  • Tuesday 2nd April 2019: School trip to Dan Yr Ogof Caves
  • Thursday 4th April 2019: Dinosaur Exhibition for parents 9:15am
  • Tuesday 9th April and Wednesday 10th April: Parents Evening

We launched this exciting topic by taking the children to the Natural History Museum.

So far we have learnt about the triceratops, stegosaurus and the t-rex!

We have loved listening to the story 'Dinosaurs Love Underpants!'

Dinosaurs Love Underpants by Claire Freedman | Children's book read aloud | Storytime With Ms. Becky

Dinosaurs Love Underpants by Claire Freedman | Read Along The mystery of dinosaur extinction is solved! Scientists have plenty of theories about why dinosaurs are extinct, but the UK's bestselling authorillustrator team of Claire Freedman and Ben Cort knows the real answer: The dinos were wiped out in an Underpants War!

"Triceratops," Dinosaurs Songs by StoryBots

If you can count to three, you can easily spot a Triceratops. One, two, three...check out his horns! The StoryBots are curious little creatures who live beneath our screens, offering a world of learning and fun for kids, parents and teachers. The children LOVE listening to this!

Our topic during the Autumn term was Muck, Mess and Mixtures!

We had a fabulous start to the year exploring and experimenting with different mixtures!

We met our friend 'Wizzy the Wizard' and learnt all about being safe on the internet. We made lots of potions and we used our problem solving skills to help Wizzy solve her problems. He then held a party for Wizzy and had a great time!

We finished our topic by going on an exciting adventure to Puzzlewood - Wizzy's home!

The Bog Baby

Our children have loved listening to this story!

You can listen to the story via the following link:

We went to the local stream to see if we could find any bog babies of our own! Please check our twitter page @coedglas2025 to see how we got on!

Tedi Twt

Dosbarth Derbyn had some very exciting news this week!!

Tedi Twt has arrived! The children will be able to take turns to take him home for the weekend. Tedi Twt can accompany you and your child on your adventures - all we ask is that you fill in his diary and bring him back on the following Monday so we can share his weekend with the rest of the children!
