Reception/ Dosbarth Derbyn

News!

                                                             Read Write Inc

The children in Reception are doing extremely well learning new sounds each week! The children have all been given a set of sounds for them to practice at home. They are super excited about showing you what they already know and will really enjoy playing teachers!

Each Friday we will add new sounds onto the set so please make sure the set of sounds are in your child's book bag every Friday. Please practice the letter formation as well and send us some pics via class dojo or twitter. We love sharing the activities the children do at home with the rest of the class!

                                                             National Teddy Bear Day!

Next Friday (20th September 2019), we will be celebrating National Teddy Bear Day. The children can bring their favourite teddy bear to school. We will also be hosting a Teddy Bear's Picnic for the children in the afternoon! Please send in a £1 voluntary contribution to help towards costs. Diolch!

Firstly, we would like to say a huge:

  thank you!

to our parents/carers for sending the children into school wearing their new school uniforms. The children looked so smart and it was a pleasure seeing them all in the school colours. The children have settled in lovely and their confidence is continuing to grow.

Here are a few bits of important information to help you and your child settle into Reception life:

  • School starts promptly at 8:55am and finishes at 3:30pm.
  • Our main communication method is 'Schoop'. Please download the app and use the school code '5427'. Please select the year group(s) you would like to follow.
  • Our twitter page is @coedglas2026 - please follow us and we will regularly update you with pictures and videos!
  • Snack is £1 a week (£8 for the half term or £15 for the full term). Please send snack money in using an envelope clearly marked with your child's name.
  • Please label all your child's clothes and belongings including shoes, bags, coats and lunchboxes.
  • If your child has school dinners please pre-order their meals online. If you are unsure how to do this or are having problems logging in, please visit the school office.
  • ABSENCE: If, for any reason,  your child is unable to attend school please ring the school office on 02920 754862 to report their absence first thing in the morning.

                   Our Furry Friends!

Meet Biscuit and Toffee, Reception's pet guinea pigs! Our guinea pigs are extremely friendly and very sociable. The children help look after them by brushing them, feeding them and giving them lots of exercise. They regularly sit on the children's laps and love cuddles. If you would like to take the guinea pigs home for a weekend, please speak to Mrs Chin-Adams. If you have any left over vegetables or peelings, please send them in with your child. Biscuit and Toffee are always hungry, just like the children!

                                          PE

PE will be taught every Friday. During the Winter term, the children will only need to remove their

socks/tights and shoes for their lesson.

During the Spring term, we will send out a Schoop when we require the children to bring in a PE kit. PE kits should consist of black shorts/leggings and a plain white t-shirt. Kits are left in school on the children's pegs and are sent home every half term to be washed.

During the Summer term, we will ask for your child to wear their trainers to school on PE days as lessons will be taught on the school fields (weather permitting!!).

                       The Daily Mile

Here at Coed Glas Primary School, we believe that a healthy amount of exercise will boost the children's learning whilst keeping their minds and bodies healthy. Over the next few weeks, we will be starting to run the Daily Mile with the children! This is a fun activity which the children all enjoy. Keep checking our Twitter page for updates. **If for any reason you do not wish your child to participate on a certain day, please let a member of staff know.

 Tedi Twt

Tedi Twt is our Reception teddy bear. He helps us to learn Welsh! Each week Tedi Twt chooses a new child to go home with. He comes with his very own suitcase, pyjamas, toothbrush and adventure book. The children can write or draw pictures in his book and will have the opportunity to share his adventures with the rest of the class!

Bookbags!

Bookbags need to be brought to school every day and checked every evening. Even though our primary communication channel is Schoop, occasionally important letters are put in the children's bookbags and we wouldn't want you to miss out on any information!

                                                               Our School Library!

Our Reception School Library is now up and running! Every Friday your child will chose a book from our library to share with you at home. Books need to be returned every Friday. Please remember, we will not be able to send a new book home until the previous book has been returned. Happy Reading!

                  Class Dojo!

Class Dojo is our school's online positive praise system. If you are yet to connect to your class, please speak to a member of staff. The children always love receiving points! Points are given out for a variety of reasons but the most common reasons are for:

- Being kind

- Being polite

- Great singing

- Speaking Welsh

- Helping others

- Great homework

- Great listening

- Great lining up and

- Great sitting.

We hope you enjoy Class Dojo as much as we do! yes

Do you have a query or concern?

We know that the first few months of your child starting school can be an anxious and nerve wrecking time. Please feel assured that your child is in safe hands! We are always at the gate to greet the children first thing in the morning and to see them off at the end of the day. If you have any queries or concerns or just want reassurance that your child is happy in school, please don't hesitate to speak to a member of staff. If you do not drop off or pick up and need to speak with us, please call the office and we will call you back at the earliest opportunity.

Meet the Teachers Meeting!

Our Meet the Teachers Meeting will be held on Tuesday 24th September 2019 at 9:15am. This meeting will provide you with all the information you need regarding class routines and will give you the opportunity to meet the adults that will be working with your child. We will also give you an overview of the topics covered in Reception.
